How far the homestay is
Honnavar bus stand is in the middle of town and a few minutes from our house in Tari-Bagel by auto. Honnavar railway station, code HNA, is about 5 km from the bus stand, which works out to roughly fifteen minutes by auto to our gate. Autos wait at both. If you would rather be met, tell us your arrival time on WhatsApp and we will arrange a pick-up.
If you come by the overnight train
The Panchaganga Express from Bengaluru reaches Honnavar at about 6:25 in the morning, and the return train leaves at about 7:05 in the evening. The Matsyagandha Express between Mumbai and Mangaluru also stops here, at about 3:20 AM in one direction and 5:30 PM in the other. Timings change, so confirm on IRCTC before you book.
A 6:25 AM arrival is the best way to start. Check-in is officially 12 noon, but we give early check-in whenever the room is free, and if it is not, you can leave your bags with us and head out. Many guests go straight from the station to the sunrise boat, since rides start around 6:00 AM and the jetty is 100 metres from the house.
If you come by bus
Overnight sleeper buses from Bengaluru take roughly nine to ten hours and reach Honnavar early in the morning. Daytime buses along the coast from Mangaluru, Udupi, Bhatkal, Kumta and Karwar stop at the same bus stand. From there it is a short auto ride to Tari-Bagel. Ask the driver for R.C. Church Road, or share your live location with us.
Your last day
Check-out is at 11 AM, and the evening train to Bengaluru leaves around 7 PM. Late check-out is given when the room is free. If it is not, leave your luggage with us, spend the afternoon at Kasarkod Eco Beach or on the water, take the sunset boat and go to the station from the jetty.
Late or very early arrivals
The host is on WhatsApp day and night, and the family lives around the house, so a 3 AM train is not a problem as long as we know in advance. Send your train or bus details when you book, and a message when you are an hour away.
Rooms and prices
Single rooms, AC or non-AC, are ₹1,500 a night with an attached bathroom, hot water, WiFi and TV. The family room takes four to six guests at ₹2,500 to ₹3,000. Meals are cooked at home on request, and there is parking if part of your group is driving.
