A short waterfall in a green hollow, a temple, a rock pool and a path down to a beach. The hilltop above is the best sunset point on this stretch of coast.
Good to know
- Steps are steep and slippery in the rain.
- Combine with Kasarkod Beach for a half-day.
- Small entry fee for the park.

What is there
Apsarakonda means the pond of the celestial nymphs, and the name suits it. A small waterfall drops about ten metres into a pool set in a green hollow. Beside it are an old Narasimha temple, caves in the laterite that local tradition links to the Pandavas, a landscaped hilltop park and a flight of steps down to a quiet beach.
The hilltop has the best sunset view on this stretch of coast, looking straight out over the Arabian Sea.
Getting there from the homestay
About 7 km south of Honnavar, roughly twenty minutes by car or auto. Cross the Sharavathi bridge, continue on NH-66 and take the signed turn towards the coast. There is parking at the top and a small entry fee for the park.
When to go
The falls are fullest from July to October, during the monsoon and just after. By late winter the flow thins to a trickle, but the park, the beach and the sunset point are worth the trip in any month. Arrive about ninety minutes before sunset, see the falls and temple first, then walk up to the viewpoint.
Good to know
The steps to the pool and to the beach are steep and get slippery in the rain, so wear shoes with grip. The beach below is unguarded, so treat it as a place to walk rather than swim. Apsarakonda, Kasarkod Eco Beach and the mangrove boardwalk are all on the same side of the river and combine well into one afternoon.
